Ahahahah. Opps, I confused it with The Good, The Bad, and The Weird (which I recommend). Although yes, I'd seen that first Japanese one -- visually stunning, older female character was my favorite, but a little hard to take altogether; the other bonus being Tarantino's acting.

Oh, I know. The Nazi ends up being the most charming (not to mention shrewd...to a point), which is creepy as hell, but I felt it really did more service to the nature of some of them, then how they are usually portrayed. Another good example of that is The Debt (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1226753/), although altogether it is not a very good film (oddly) and does veer into Nazi fantasy if one likes that sort of thing.

I recall Jewish people, on the radio, having a chat about the character in Inglorious who is the muscleman; it was an interesting philosophical piece of honesty, that they wished he existed, that he was a kind of mental fantasy brought to life. I found an old Atlantic article (http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2009/09/hollywoods-jewish-avenger/307619/) (which is too wanky to read in total), that sums up the very same point: Eli Roth...plays a Basterd known as the “Bear Jew,” whose specialty is braining Germans with a baseball bat. Roth told me recently that Inglourious Basterds falls into a subgenre he calls “kosher porn.”
