kv0925: (Gromit Reading)
It was one of those weekends around here where the weather prognosticators say it's probably going to rain, and it even looks like they're right--but then it never actually rains. This time around it finally did, and quite a deluge too! But not until Sunday night, which was actually a good thing because I had plans that relied on no rain! Two photoshoots, specifically!

Saturday's shoot was a morning stroll at Crane's Roost Park in Altamonte--the client was a local high school senior, which is a market I'd really like to crack into more. They're usually fun subjects to work with, and there's a built-in referral market. I'd rather do 10 of those than one wedding, to make the same money. Weddings are exhausting. :) Heather and the girls came along to the park to play and walk while I was working, so afterwards I met up with them and we headed out for lunch. Then we headed home and spent the rest of the day waiting for rain that never came. I did a bit of yard work, like mowing the weeds (there's not much grass to speak of at this point!) and then cooled off in the pool. It isn't quite as warm as we like it, but it's warm enough to go in if I'm all heated up. And the girls don't mind--they were going in it a week or two ago when the water temperature was still in the 60Fs!

While doing yard work Saturday, the girls counted up 12 monarch caterpillars on the milkweed plants. That's way more than those plants can support, so we decided Sunday morning we'd head up to Lukas, which is probably the largest plant nursery in the area. I usually consider them to be a bit overpriced, but really they seemed pretty reasonable this time. I got a whole tray of 10 milkweed plants for $20, and that seemed like a great deal! They're smallish plants with no blooms, but plenty of leaves, which is what I really wanted for the caterpillars. So now I have a nice little patch of milkweed, if they survive the caterpillars! We also got some more nectar plants, and a couple of sensitive plants, which are fun--I didn't realize they bloom and attract butterflies, so that's a bonus! We also couldn't resist buying a bag of live ladybugs--there are plenty of aphids on the milkweeds, and whiteflies on a plant in the pool area, so they should have plenty to munch on. We were going to release them at dusk yesterday, but it was pouring rain and that seemed like a bad idea. So maybe this evening instead.

After the yard work (and a bit more cooling off in the pool) we headed to Downtown Disney for my other photoshoot of the weekend. Heather took the girls to play in the splash pad while I met up with the folks, another sort of family reunion at Disney. There was the lady who hired me, her mother, and her brother (and his wife and 2 young boys). They were nice enough, but to say the boys were not very cooperative would be an understatement. I haven't really looked at the photos yet, but I really hope I got enough decent ones to pass along! I won't feel too bad if I can't deliver as many finished images as I normally do, since it seemed like the whole thing was the idea of the lady who hired me and everyone else was just playing along and in a hurry to get to dinner. Not ideal overall. Ah well.

And I have 3 more shoots coming up! One's this Friday, an engagement shoot at the Magic Kingdom. Those are generally a lot of fun, and I'm taking the rest of the day off so I can hang out afterwards and maybe get some rides in. And then in a couple weeks I have another two back to back, one another couple at the Magic Kingdom, and one a family at the Boardwalk. All Disney all the time! Works for me!

And on that note.. back to work. I need to do some photo postin later, maybe here and maybe in [livejournal.com profile] shutterbuggery. It's been too quiet in there lately!
