Pretty good weekend.. relaxing, mostly! Yesterday we did some shopping and that was about it. Today we headed to the Tibet-Butler Preserve down by Disney World for a little stroll in the woods. We hoped it wouldn't be too hot since it's a pretty shady park and we went early-ish. But it was still hot because of the humidity and lack of breeze. Good walk, though--got some decent pictures: Cut to be dialup-friendly! )

The new dvd player works great, and I'm thrilled to be able to fit 6 feature films on one dvd. Of course, my computer apparently knew I was excited and so my dvd burner started intermittently cranking out coasters. Not sure what's up with that.. I re-loaded the firmware to see if that waill help, and indeed the one disc I burned since seemed to work fine. Remains to be seen if the next one works as well! Oh well, I've been wanting to get a dual-layer burner anyway. :)

My next adventure in photography is to put together at least a rudimentary portrait studio, hopefully a portable one. I plan to do it with AC slave flashes, which screw into standard lightbulb sockets and fire when they "see" a trigger flash (like the one on my camera). I got a few lamps to hold the slave flashes, but I don't have the slave flashes yet so I tried a little session using fluorescent 60W-equivalent bulbs (less heat than incandescent!). Not bad, but not great:

I think I'll do a lot better when I get the flashes I need, and then I can use the continuous lamps as backdrop lighting to get rid of those shadows. Oh, and some reflectors and diffusers will help too. Gotta read up on studio lighting techniques!

Okay, time to go watch some movie and relax a bit. I don't even mind the fact that I have to work in the morning, since I get the next day off as a holiday!
