Bring on the coooooool!
Oct. 23rd, 2006 10:57 amWeekend was merely okay, mainly because the weather sucked. Oh, it was sunny enough, but we've had a week of unseasonably warm temperatures coupled with high humidity, which has made it feel a lot more like early July or August than mid-to-late October! So because of that, of course we didn't feel like doing a whole lot outdoors. Saturday evening we did go to SeaWorld for a stroll, and that was nice, but still pretty toast. Yesterday we just did some shopping (got the 2-disc edition of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre re-make for $5! Sweet!) and lunch out, and pretty much stayed home after that.
But a change is brewing! Even as I type this, outside my window are all the trappings of a blustery fall day. It'll still be fairly warm today, but the first real cold front of the season is blowing in so we're expecting overnight lows in the high 40F's for the next few nights, and tomorrow the high is only supposed to be 68F or so! Hey, don't laugh, that counts as cool for us Floridians! Depending on how this week goes, I just might try to take Wednesday or Thursday off, to do my whirlwind theme park tour. Because if I'm going to do that, I may as well get paid for it too! Heather and I drafted a basic timeline for the tour last night, and I think (as long as lines aren't bad, which they hopefully won't be) it's totally feasible. Actually, I found a nifty website with a day-by-day crowd calendar for WDW, and it indicates that next week would be even better in that respect. So I guess I'll wait to see how the weather for next week looks to be shaping up--if it's going to get ridiculously hot again (and so far it doesn't look like it), I'll try to do it this week, otherwise I'll shoot for next week. Fun to be actually thinking of doing this! Yes, it's a silly little thing to do, but what's the point of having annual passes to all the major theme parks in the area without trying it at least once? And I figure it'll make a more interesting post for A Day In My Life than most!
What else is going on.. eh, not much. Speaking of theme parks, I think we might try to hit EPCOT tonight. Crowds look light, and the new ride in the Living Seas is apparently soft-open (meaning not advertised as open, but open unless they find a new bug to iron out) and we've been looking forward to checking that out. Plus we haven't been there since the Food and Wine Festival started! Let's see, who's onstage tonight? The Four Tops! I can dig that.
Munchkin's latest thing.. I guess sometimes when she gets upset and we talk to her to calm her down, we tell her what we're going to do, or ask her what will make her happy, and end with "...okay." So that's her thing now. She'll ask to do something and end by answering it herself with "...okay." It's really very cute. So she'll wake up in the morning and say, "Want to play with toys with Daddy? Okay." Or she'll see me at the computer and come up and say, "Want to play Sesame Street Letters with Daddy? Okay." On that note, she's definitely Daddy's little girl--she loves playing games on the computer! She can't quite drive the mouse yet, so mostly she just watches and/or points to and talks about things on the screen, but she can't get enough. She also loves to paint. We initially got her fingerpaints, but she doesn't really like those because she doesn't like getting her hands yucky. So she was using them with a brush instead, and that occupied her for a good solid hour one day last week. We got her some watercolors over the weekend, but she didn't quite get the sequence of dipping the brush in the water in between each color just yet, so we'll have to try that again! Linguistically, we think she's starting to use "I" properly. She's been referring to herself as "you" for some time because that's what we call her, of course, but lately she's been better with using "I", mostly as in "I want to..." Eh, she's (almost) 2, I guess that's to be expected. :) We're hoping to avoid the worst of the "terrible two's" since she's definitely smart enough to tell us what she wants rather than just cry about it. But still, when she's especially tired or cranky, there's more crying than talking. Her real tantrums are few and far between, though, and we hope it stays that way!
Meanwhile, "work" has begun on kid #2. Heh heh. We figure if we can conceive around this month, the due date would be next summer. That would mean that maybe Heather's sister could come down to stay with us for a few weeks and give us a hand when the time comes, whether or not we have to go through all the pre-term labor and delivery stuff. We'll hope not, but we really need to assume it will happen again and just consider ourselves lucky if it doesn't. At least we know I have a flexible job and great insurance!
Okay, better get some actual work done. Just because the boss is away is no excuse to be a total slack-monkey.
Oh, parting note--if you haven't heard of it, you've gotta check out Chad Vader: Day/Night Shift Manager. Just do a search for Chad Vader on YouTube--there are 4 episodes so far, maybe 5 minutes each. Excellent stuff. "Strike me down with your anger and claim your refund!" Ha!
