Virginia Beach trip.

So.. trip recap time! I guess I'll make this mainly photographic again, so...
Left on Thursday, around lunchtime. Munchkin was really very good on the flight--we fed her fruit snacks to keep her chewing and swallowing on ascent, then she fell asleep for most of the trip. She woke up maybe half an hour from landing, and her ears bothered her on the descent, but she got excited when we landed and then she seemed to feel better. Heather's Dad picked us up, and we mainly just hung around the house for the rest of the day and let munchkin get used to the new place and new people. Not that she ever really did!

Friday we left munchkin with the grandparents and went to the Norfolk Botanical Gardens. It was pretty warm, but we had a good time.

Then we took a walk to a nearby park and munchkin had fun swinging.

Saturday my step-sister Rhonda and her kids got into town, and we decided to spend the afternoon at the beach. We also spent a few hours the next day at the beach. I got a LOT of sun on this trip!

Sunday we headed to the Virginia Zoo. Hot again, but fun!

Monday we hung out with Rhonda and the kids for a bit before they hit the road for home, and then we went with Heather's folks to Ocean Breeze, a little waterpark in Virginia Beach. More sun!

Tuesday I took off by myself for Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, while the girls all went shopping. I had way more fun, and got way more sun. :)

By Wednesday Heather was pretty vacationed out, but I wanted to do a bit more sightseeing, so I headed to Norfolk to visit the Hampton Roads Naval Museum and stroll around the USS Wisconsin, a decommissioned Iowa-class battleship berthed there.

After that I strolled a few blocks from the water and found the Douglas MacArthur Memorial. As a WWII buff I knew a little about him, of course--"I shall return" and all that--but I really walked away from this place with a newfound respect for the man. I may have to make a separate post about that.

And we flew back that afternoon. Munchkin didn't sleep through as much of the flight, but she was still pretty good, and was sound asleep for the descent and landing. Home was still in one piece when we got here, and the cat had actually behaved herself pretty well, though she's been abnormally annoying and loud since we got back. Oh well. Thursday and Friday I worked, and got sent home early to celebrate after getting the news about my promotion. Had a pretty good weekend, though the weather is already too darn hot around here! Now it's time to watch some tv and get into a pre-sleep condition. Hope everyone else has had a good weekend!
<Photographic note, for those who care and for my own reference. The only lens I took on the trip was my new Tamron 28-75mm, so all these pics were taken with it. More on my Flickr if anyone is interested!)
