Spooky, innit? That's the haunted prison that Heather and I went to Saturday evening. It really was a prison--more accurately, an institution for the criminally insane. A pretty creepy place in its own right! Now it's mainly deserted--I presume all they use it for anymore is as a haunted house around Halloween. Pretty nifty for that, though! My favorite spot was a hallway near the beginning, lined on both sides with cells, steel doors with small barred windows. Totally dark, except for the outlines of moonlight sneaking in through the cell windows, and a random lightning strobe which revealed that the white walls of the hallway were splattered and smeared with blood. Well, red paint. But hey, things like this are all about suspension of disbelief. :) A good show, anyway.
And well-timed; I've been on something of a ghost-hunting sort of kick lately. Not that I've really gone out searching or anything, but I spent an evening reading up on supposed spooks and haunts in the area. That prison is probably one such place. There are two houses down in Franklin which are reportedly haunted by ghosts from an intense little battle that occurred there during the Civil War. And along those same lines, the battlefield at Stones River is pretty surely haunted. That one I'd buy; 3,000 men died there, so it stands to reason that even after 140 years there's a possibility of one or two still hanging around. But then again, I don't mean to sound like I really believe in any of it--I'm a skeptic to the core, and believe nothing I can't see, and not even everything I do see. But in my philosophical wanderings and wonderings, the existence of ghosts would answer some questions, or at least provide some insights, I think. So it's a fascinating subject.
And on that note, Happy Halloween! I think I'm going to go catch a movie or two with Drew this afternoon, after perhaps visiting Stones River again. And then tonight I intend to just hang out with some scary movies. That likely would have been my plan anyway, but especially in light of the rumors and FBI warnings floating around lately. It's a weird time.
Sunday Heather and I went to Stones River in the morning, and then we went to the zoo again and reflected on our first date--that was where we met. Had a good time again, of course. And saw tiger cubs and snow leopard cubs! Odd how animals like that look so cute and cuddly. Until they claw your face off. Heh heh.
Okay, I think that's it for now. Feeling happy but a little restless today. Probably because the weather is surely gorgeous and I should be out in it! Gotta grab a shower and head out. Have a fun and safe evening!
