So, Detroit! It was cold. And pretty dreary, on the whole. Partly due to the cold, I'd planned to go to the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village, both of which sounded right up my alley. When I got there, I discovered that Greenfield Village was closed (seasonal hours, I guess), so I just did the museum. And actually it was a Good Thing that it worked out that way, because the museum is HUGE--like 12 indoor acres huge--and I went all the way to closing time and still skipped some bits. And some of the stuff in their collection really blew my mind.

Lots of photos, of course, and mostly (as the subject implies) of planes, trains, and--as one would expect in a Detroit museum named after Henry Ford--lots of cars. Come along for a tour?

And that was about it! After I left it was already getting dark, and the next day was just office-to-airport, so no more photos. Hopefully that wasn't too boring--I know there's nothing like being there.

Anyway, thanks for looking!

...Said almost no one, ever. Except me!

This time around I had to work my flights and schedule around my employee's needs, which is of course fine but meant the only sightseeing time I had was after leaving the office Wednesday afternoon. Given that, I knew most attractions (the ones I'd care to visit, anyway) would be closed for the day, so I thought I'd venture towards downtown Detroit and check out Belle Isle Park, which (as the name implies) is an island that sits in the Detroit River between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario to the south.

But first.. Clicky! )

I do enjoy these photographic recaps, so I figured I'll do one for the past week or so. Above you see Brad Gillis and Kelly Keaggy of Night Ranger, who we went to see at the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival the weekend before last. Well, "we" started out watching the show, but it was a bit too loud for the girls so they went off to more quiet environs while I rocked out. Softies! I've seen Night Ranger 3 times now at EPCOT, I think, and it's always a great show. Yes, it's old geezers retreading their '80s hair-band schlock, but I like it, okay? They tossed in a Damn Yankees song, which I always love too. Good stuff. Otherwise it wasn't a great visit to EPCOT--the weather got hot and kinda muggy again for that weekend, and the place was packed because of the festival. Plus a lot of people go to that to get drunk, and we're not particularly fans of drunk people. Still worth it.

Onwards to Detroit! )
