Of all the treasures in heaven..
Nov. 19th, 2001 07:28 pmWell, it was a pretty decent weekend, though I had to work too much. Friday I opened at work, and Heather was waiting when I got home, which was nice. We headed out to the Bluebird Cafe, which has long been a Nashville landmark, if you've never heard of it. I saw a singer/songwriter by the name of Walt Wilkins there some months back, and I happened to discover that he was back there in the round, so I was excited to go to that. And for free, it can't be beat! The round is a traditional thing there--they get 4 singer/songwriters, typically, who sit in a circle and go around singing songs and talking. Sometimes they just chat, sometimes tell jokes, sometimes talk about the songs they're playing. It's fun because they usually all know each other. When that happens, they often play and sing along with each other, which can be really cool. So it's nice, and very inspiring. Walt is just great, so it's almost sad that he hasn't made it bigger. But I guess we all know that the music industry encourages and rewards so many other things before those trivialities like talent and integrity and intelligence and heart. But that's the cynic in me talking there. :)
Oh, I skipped ahead, though--Wednesday Heather came for the evening as well, and we went downtown to the Belcourt, a little independent theater, to see a film called Fighter. Pretty neat--a documentary about a man going back to Czechoslovakia and Italy in 1998 to retrace his escape from Nazi occupation as a young Jewish man in the early 1940's. I love seeing off-beat films like that, and Heather enjoyed it as well. The rest of the world can have their Harry Potter's, you feel me?
And let's see.. Saturday we drove up and around the Hendersonville area, which was pretty neat. It's fun to explore around here--well, it would be fun to explore anywhere, having someone wonderful to explore with! And Sunday I had to go to work, so we just hung out for a bit in the morning, and then again in the evening. Actually, that night I got home from work and she had dinner ready. Pretty sweet. :)
And this week will kinda suck. I work every day but Thursday, and the end of the week will be craziness at work. We usually do about $20,000 on a busy weekend day; Friday we're slated to do $50,000. Ack. And I get to be there at 5am. Boo-yah. And Wednesday Heather will be leaving to head to Texas for the holiday. So it's kinda good that I work all weekend again, since she won't be around anyway. But either way I'll miss her!
And that's about it for now, other than to share a bit of trivia: before toothbrushes were made with nylon, any idea where the bristles came from? Pigs. Doesn't something seem just wrong about that? Ick.
