We're overdue...
Jan. 3rd, 2006 09:39 am...for a munchkin update!
Quite a lot going on with her, really! I guess the biggest news is that she's *this* close to walking. Really she does walk, and pretty well, but at this point she only takes short walks, like from one piece of furniture to another. It's so cute. :) We've figured for weeks that she's perfectly capable of walking as much as she wants, but she didn't quite realize it. She'd walk mainly when she wasn't thinking about it, like when she was holding a toy and focusing her attention on that. Same with getting to a stand without pulling up on anything--she did it the other day while holding a book, but she doesn't quite realize she can do it anytime! Still, I'd give it just a few more days until she's really standing up and walking all by herself, all over the place. Then the fun starts, eh? :)
As for talking, she gets a little better all the time, of course. Lately her thing is to say "Daddy" a lot, which of course melts the heart. One day last week Heather said she all of a sudden looked at the front door and started saying "Daddy, Daddy", like she thought I should be coming home anytime. Awwww. :) She says "Mommy" too, but she says it like "Momby," which is still very cute. :)
And she's smart, but we all knew that. :) She recognizes and names about 10 letters, and she knows her farm animals pretty well. She sees a cow and says, "moo!" A sheep gets a "baa!" It's so neat to watch her learn and put these things together. She's been loving rides in her new wagon ("Wa! Wa!") and bike trailer.
She's pretty well-behaved most of the time, thankfully. Sometimes she gets sleepy but doesn't want to nap, and that's when she gets most cranky and the little things will make her cry. We love how much she adores books, we really do, but unfortunately she's not exactly *nice* to them, so we still have to try to redirect her attention to her books and away from ours. :) Other than that she doesn't get into much she shouldn't, though she always comes crawling at full-speed to play with the silverware when we open the dishwasher, and she's figured out that boxes can be opened and sometimes have fun stuff inside. So yes, this next year should be a lot of fun as we all figure out what she can and shouldn't get into. :)
Okay, better get back to work. I've just been meaning to jot all this down!
