Today's been.. stressful, really. I got in to work this morning to find that one of my computers wouldn't boot up. I have two computers here at work that I switch between, see--one is a normal desktop on which I do all my e-mail and word processing and status monitoring, and the other is a big beast that I use for my more intensive database and report design stuff. Apparently we had a power outage overnight that caused them both to shut down, so I went to restart when I arrived. The beast came up fine, but the other would get to some point in the XP boot process, fail, and restart. Same thing in normal, last known good configuration, and safe modes. Uh oh, especially since all my e-mail from the past 4 years is saved on there!

And then, as if that weren't enough, I got a voicemail and a call that apparently a change I made yesterday in our workforce management system had caused some Bad Things to happen. So suddenly I had a big mess to clean up, which was tough without both of my machines running!

But I did pretty well, and after a 10am conference call I scootered home to burn myself a bootable Windows recovery cd. Came back to work, popped that in, and after a quick chkdsk that found a bad sector, all was well again. Whew. Of course, now I find that my user permissions on my computers don't allow me to run Windows' disk-check utility, which seems a fairly ridiculous thing to lock down, doesn't it? And I daren't ask for the permission, because when you ask for something around here, they tend to either mess things up or find something else (or several somethings) they suddenly feel the need to lock down as well. Sheesh. Oh well, I'm just glad I was able to fix the thing myself--I was very wary of calling it in as a problem, since they'd have probably just written off the hard disk for dead and lost all my stuff.

Anyway, otherwise this week has been.. well, stressful. So I guess everything is in line! Everyone's just been a bit on edge for some reason, and that's never fun. Tomorrow I'm driving over to visit my pals at the Tampa division (which reminds me, I need that address!), which should be cool. Then the weekend. Whew.

But the pool isn't prepared for the weekend yet! We have a salt-water chlorination system, which has been great. But apparently the salt went away, maybe because of all the rain we've been having. So the water started getting dingy, and I've added a few bags of salt but it still needs more! So this evening we'll go get a few more bags, and hopefully that will get it cranking out the chlorine again. The pool's been pretty low-maintenance so far, but it sure did run out of salt quick once it started! Seemed like the level was always off the chart every time I checked, but as soon as I stopped checking the bottom fell out.

Okay, back to work. Hope everyone is having a better week!

Pool greening up nicely? LOL, dude you're late. It's a spring thing, the hotter weather means you have to run the pump longer. And scrub the walls, using the brush, forcing to the toward the bottom drains, not the skimmer. AND then crank up the chlorine generator. And shock it. Maybe more than once (we had to twice). Sigh.
Hey, don't forget, and we're new to it too, I think we're suppose to do something to the pool after a hurricane. Have chlorine to shock or something? No power means no pump and all that crap blown around and in will make it pretty nasty maybe. I dunno. Been trying to get the spouse to take care of that for weeks. If you find out, let me know.
