Bill Up And Dies In Tennessee Legislature
NASHVILLE, TN--Democratic supporters of H.R. 3470, the Shelby County Millage Act, were right sorry Monday when the bill up and died in the Tennessee General Assembly. "We done supported that bill like a mama possum supports her young 'uns," said Rep. Clem McCombs (D-Pikeville), the bill's sponsor. "But the committee process was just too ornery." Rep. Lefty Perkins (R-Pigeon Forge), chairman of the House Committee On Looking After Your Own Business, celebrated the death of the bill by firing his shotgun into the air.

Well, the Shelby County Millage Act may or may not be an actual bill, I dunno. But The Onion (http://www.theonion.com) isn't a real newspaper, it's a funny one. :) I try to check it every week and share any stories that tickle me in particular. That one did because I'm a new Nashvillean. :)

Wow. So do I. Up until I met someone from Murfreesboro through a webring over a year ago, I thought I was the only person in the state of Tennessee that knew about online journals and such that didn't involve obnoxious teeny-boppers.

Yes, my small LJ circle of friends is consistently (amused? annoyed?) by surfing random LJ's to discover that a good 90% are younguns lamenting how horrible their existence is. Ah well, I guess we shouldn't say much, as we probably all went through it in one form or another. ;) We just didn't have online journals as a forum for our whiny moans! :)

Cool... yeah.. it's probably not too far off from the truth... I mean, I TRY to defend my home state from "Yankee" stereotypes and yes there are some really cool, progressive people here, but jeez.... it gets hard sometimes...

and hey redcrayon.. I guess I'm another non-teeny bopper journaler from Tennessee (although I was mistaken for being fourteen about six months ago, but I'm still not going to explain that story)..

btw, Shelby County is the Memphis area....
