I don't watch a whole lot of television, really, but now and then I'll hear some buzz about a show, or something will come along that is of particular interest to me, and I'll get hooked for a while. That's basically what happened with Breaking Bad--as the series was reaching its end the buzz was amplified and people whose taste I respect were talking it up, so I thought I'd see what it was all about. Got hooked fast and made it through the whole series within a few weeks. Damn good stuff.

My current addictions: Fargo and House of Cards.

I've briefly mentioned Fargo before, but it's just gotten better from there. There was a scene in the 7th episode that I thought was just amazingly well-done, such a different and astonishing take on the event being portrayed. In episode 8 the creators made a sudden left-turn which was a fascinating choice, and then this week's 9th episode was pretty impressive too, and really sets up next week's season finale. I can't wait, though I'll be a bit sad to see this season come to an end. Apparently a second (and possibly third) season is in the works, but the idea is that each season will be a different story and different cast, and this season will be difficult to match, let alone top.

House of Cards I'd also heard good things about, and I've loved Kevin Spacey from his Usual Suspects and Se7en days, so I figured I'd give it a shot too. I'm a couple episodes into the 2nd season, and have been very impressed with it. It's so tightly scripted, awesome performances, and a few twists that really caught me off-guard. It depresses me a bit to think that this could really be how things work in DC, of course, but as a show it's just top-notch stuff.

I think once Fargo ends and I catch up on HoC, I'll have to give True Detective a try, that one seems good too. And of course I'm looking forward to the return of Doctor Who this summer, to see how Capaldi does as Twelve.

I don't think I mentioned Mob City, did I? That was Frank Darabont's series about Bugsy Siegel and organized crime in LA in the 1940s and 50s, which was also a very well-done show, though pretty short, only 6 episodes. I was interested because it's Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption remaining my all-time favorite film), but also because the lady in charge of wardrobe bought one of Heather's vintage-inspired kids' dresses for potential use in the series. Alas, the dress did not make an appearance, though I think I know who would have been wearing it. Still, kinda neat that there was at least that potential connection!

Any other shows I should check out? I don't get a whole lot of tv time, so I kinda lean towards shows that have an end in sight, but also preferably things that are already well into their run so I can download a bunch and catch up as time permits. :)

House of Cards is old. It's British and a thousand times better then the American version. It was originally a terrific BBC series that scared the heck out of me. There the intrigue was the Prime Minster. The mini series was out in the 1980's. The anti hero was Ian Richardson (who has a permanent sneer on his face) A charming villain and murderer. And yes, he made it to Primed Minister. Oh his wife was worse. She.......I won't give it away, but it had more twists and turns that you anyone could see coming.

I knew it was originally a BBC miniseries, and that both are based on a novel--is the novel also based around the British government? I've no doubt it's good too, but Kevin Spacey is pretty awesome. :) I imagine I relate to the US version more, being interested in stateside politics.

Yes it was. I think the novel came out in the 1970's. The BBC version was more a mini-series. It lasted 3 season with one story arc. When TV series are produced from books. They deviate from the plot. They could run for many years. So they have one story at a time for each episode.

I could relate to the British version, because in their political system there is no fixed term. If they have no confidence vote in their constituency, they will have to have another election. I can see why the American version is a regular TV series. Different political system. The British had the constant suspense, because of their lack of fixed term. Thatcher is the current prime minister during the plot of the BBC series.

I'm obsessed with Louie right now. It's so good that it makes me angry. Season two of The Americans is really good! I still have four more episodes, but I'm way into it.

True Detective is seriously incredible, wow. I've watched it twice now, haha. Top of the Lake is in a similar vein and REALLY REALLY REALLY GOOD. It's on Netflix if you have that.

I can't wait til Fargo finishes so I can binge watch it all in like 3 days and then get angry that I have to wait a whole year for more.

I'm not really a big Woody Harrelson fan, never have been. But True Detective still looks awesome. :) I'll be so sad when Fargo ends, but I'm sure I'll watch the season again to look for the little details and tells I surely missed along the way. I hope the next season/story is as good!

Game of Thrones is fantastic. A little difficult to follow at first (it took about 3 episodes before we started to get the hang of it). We rewatched seasons 1-3 before season 4 started and then everything made way more sense. Season finale is tonight!

Hmm, there's a thought. I've been largely uninterested in GoT because (from the little know) it strikes me as convoluted with lots of characters to follow--and characters get killed off in new and exciting ways as soon as you get attached to them. I'm not sure I could take that sort of emotional abuse. ;)

I love House of Cards. Kevin Spacey plays his character SO WELL. Talk about a dirt bag politician...

I really like Wilfred. Not sure if there is an end in sight (Only a few seasons are on Netflix), but it's really good, and funny, and a little weird.

Everyone in the show does, but I think Spacey really nails it. I've liked him since he first came along, though, just a great character actor.

Hmm, Wilfred does sound pretty interesting! According to its Wikipedia entry, it's been announced that the upcoming season 4 will be the last one. I'll give that a try--weird is good! :)

I've loved Spacey since I saw him in American Beauty.

I hope you like Wilfred! It'w quirky and a little dark, but in all the good ways. :)

I think I'd put American Beauty, The Usual Suspects, and Se7en in my all-time top 10. But it's funny, for the longest time I tended to forget Spacey is in Se7en until he would show up. :)

I forgot about him in Se7en! He plays that role very well, too. It's definitely in my top 10.
